2001 Deaf World Games Water Polo Athlete Selection Criteria USAAD (Note: Approved by the USADSF Board) Dates and Location Selection for the 2001 Deaf World Games team will be based on performances at USAAD training camps over a four-year period (1997-2001). USAAD hosts one or two training camps per year. Announcement The announcement of the Deaf World Games athlete selection process shall be made immediately. Members of the National and Developmental Team will be announced after the Summer 1999 training camp (August 1-7, 1999). The announcement of the first 11 players to be on the US Team roster will be made in August1999. The last two remaining spots will be announced after Thanksgiving Water Polo camp in November 2000. Eligibility To be eligible for selection, a water polo player must be an U.S. citizen and is a registered member of US Water Polo (USWP), US Aquatic Association of the Deaf (USAAD), and the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF). A water polo player must have a hearing loss of 55db or greater in both ears to be selected to the US Team. Selection Procedures The 2001 World Games for the Deaf team will consist of thirteen (13) players. The USAAD water polo coaching staff will evaluate all players on their performance, attitude, work ethic and coachability at USAAD camps and/or USWP or NCAA sanctioned events (see criteria list). Players will be ranked every two years by the USAAD coaching staff and obtain either a National or Developmental Team status. The Developmental Team players will also receive a ranking so they know where they stand in the coaches' opinion. Each player will meet with the coaches on a one-on-one basis to discuss their ranking. All players who receive a National Team ranking must be available to practice with the team during training camps and tournaments. Should a player become injured, unavailable, or can no longer work effectively with the team or the coaching staff, he will be asked to either go back to the Developmental Team, or be dropped from the program. The final roster and any changes are subject to approval by the USADSF Board. Selection Committee: The selection committee shall consist of the following individuals: · USAAD Director · USAAD Water Polo Coordinator · USAAD Water Polo Head Coach · USAAD Water Polo Assistant Coach · A DWG athlete (if none of the above are DWG athletes). Due Process Any water polo player who is displeased with his placement on the team, he must first meet with the USAAD coaching staff. If the player is still displeased, he has the right to due process (under USAAD By-Laws and USADSF By-Laws).
